The manufacturing industry in Nevada County has, unfortunately, been on a slow decline over the past 15 years, in terms of jobs. The types of jobs created in this industry are known as primary jobs in economic development circles, and typically pay reasonably high wages. Nevada County is home to a large cluster of firms that manufacture videobroadcasting equipment, born in the late 1950s with the creation of the Grass Valley Group under Dr. Donald Hare. Additionally, there are firms in the County that produce a wide spectrum of products, from low to high tech in nature, and then ship them all over the world.
